Great Company, Great Food and Great Memories
Some weekends are enjoyable. Some are memorable. And then there are weekends like this year’s Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants Masters Weekend in Italy, the kind that leaves everyone talking about it long after the flight home.
Over four fantastic days, a wonderful group of Liverymen, Freemen, friends and guests came together to experience the very best of Italian culture, hospitality and, of course, food.
Hosted by our Master, Lucia Di Stazio CMRS, and Consort Mike Tattam, the weekend was a masterclass in organisation, bringing together an itinerary that perfectly balanced history, culture, relaxation and plenty of opportunities to enjoy each other’s company.
Based around the beautiful regions of Paestum and Salerno, the programme showcased a side of Italy that many visitors never get to see. We explored the magnificent ancient temples of Paestum, wandered through historic towns, enjoyed stunning coastal views and immersed ourselves in the rich heritage of a region that effortlessly combines history with modern Italian charm.
For many, the food was every bit as memorable as the sightseeing. Visits to local buffalo mozzarella producers and olive groves gave us a real appreciation for the traditions and craftsmanship behind some of Italy’s most famous products. It would be impossible to single out every culinary highlight; it’s fair to say that the antipasti set an exceptionally high standard from the very beginning.
The weekend also included boat tours, guided walks, visits to local landmarks and a truly memorable evening at Castello Vassallo. Whether admiring spectacular views, discovering local history or simply enjoying good conversation over a glass of wine, there was always something to appreciate.
What made the weekend particularly special, however, wasn’t just the places we visited. It was the people we shared the experience with. In an industry where many relationships are built around meetings, projects and business discussions, weekends like this provide a valuable opportunity to spend time together in a completely different setting. Friendships are strengthened, new connections are formed and conversations flow far beyond the usual day-to-day topics.
A huge thank you must go to Lucia and Mike for their incredible hospitality and for the tremendous effort that went into organising every aspect of the weekend. From the moment guests arrived, there was a genuine warmth and friendliness that made everyone feel welcome and ensured the trip was enjoyed by all.
The scenery was spectacular, the history fascinating, the hospitality first class and the antipasti outstanding – what else would you expect?
