A Truly Special Evening at the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants Installation DinnerWhat a delight to share one of the real highlights of the year – attending the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants Installation Court General and Livery Dinner at the magnificent Merchant Taylors’ Hall this past Friday. It was a truly special evening surrounded by so many familiar faces from across the industry. The sense of tradition, camaraderie, and pride in what we do as a sector was clear from the moment we arrived. Held in one of London’s most historic and elegant venues, the event was a perfect reminder of the strength and heritage that continues to shape our profession today.
Huge congratulations to Lucia Di Stazio CMRS on being installed as Master of the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants. It was fantastic to see her take on this prestigious role and to hear her inspiring words for the year ahead. My warmest congratulations also go to Kevin Fenlon (Senior Warden), Steve Durdant-Hollamby (Junior Warden), and Julian Milligan (Keeper of the Roll) on their appointments. The ceremony itself, held during the Court General on 24th October 2025, was steeped in history and significance.Following the ceremony, over 250 members and guests gathered in the Great Hall for a celebratory dinner hosted by the new Master and Consort.
The atmosphere was buzzing with conversation, laughter, and genuine warmth — a real coming together of people who are passionate about what they do. Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation, delivered an engaging and insightful speech that perfectly complemented the occasion.Lucia’s own address was particularly powerful. With ‘Education and Opportunity’ chosen as her theme for the year, she spoke passionately about how the Livery and the wider industry can open doors for people at every stage of their careers.
“Education and Training is a core objective of our Livery and I firmly believe in the windows of opportunity our Livery and industry open for young people and for those looking to grow and develop their careers. Education in whichever form it takes, creates opportunities for individuals and businesses alike and when combined with positive guidance and mentorship, it fuels ambition, fosters achievement and drives success.”
Her message resonated with me as it’s a reminder that the success of our sector depends not only on the quality of our products and services, but on the people — their growth, learning, and the opportunities we help create for them. The evening’s entertainment added even more magic to the celebration, with beautiful performances by The London Banqueting Ensemble and an energetic Drum Display by 3PWRR Corps of Drums, while the Beckenham & Penge Sea Cadets provided their traditional Carpet Guard — an enduring symbol of service, tradition, and pride.
Reflecting on the evening, I was struck once again by the incredible sense of community within the construction and merchanting world. It’s a family that celebrates together, supports one another, and continues to build an industry that makes a real difference.
It truly was an unforgettable night.
